Theories of Material Cultures bring together the unique mix of scholarly strengths and specializations at UCSD to study materiality: human interactions with the material world. By combining theoretical inquiry with creativity and a quest for technological advances, they pursue new innovations and understandings of the nature of the mind and body.

The convener is Elizabeth Newsome (Visual Arts) and additional participants come from Communication, Visual Arts, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Cognitive Science, Music, and Anthropology.
