The Medical Humanities research group hones in on the study of bioethics in its third year. This group builds on a successful track record of bringing together scholars in humanities and practitioners in the School of Medicine in monthly meetings to analyze and discuss over twenty-five works of literary fiction and non-fiction dealing with medicine. Several in the group now bring expanded knowledge of the humanities to their teaching in the School of Medicine; others bring a growing familiarity with medicine to the teaching of literature, philosophy, and the arts. Their long-rage goal remains to establish a Medical Ethics and Humanities Program at UC San Diego and integrate ethics and humanities into undergraduate and graduate medical education.
Co-conveners are Mary Devereaux, PhD; Craig Agule, JD, MA; Madhu Singh. Participants include faculty, graduate students, and affiliates of the Division of Arts & Humanities and the School of Medicine.
