Critical Immigration & Refugee Studies attends to critiques of empire and the nation-state in order to situate refugees in the context of colonialism, militarism, and globalization. This shifts the focus of immigration and refugee studies toward the mechanisms and interactions that produce, police, and manage immigrant and refugee bodies and subjectivities.

Conveners include Rawan Arar (Sociology), Yen Le Espiritu (Ethnic Studies), Jin-kyung Lee (Literature), Linh Nguyen (Ethnic Studies), and Davorn Sisavath (Ethnic Studies).
