Please join us for a lunchtime discussion with Karl Gerth, the Hwei-Chih and Julia Hsiu Chair in Chinese Studies and Professor of History. Gerth joined UC San Diego in 2013.
Karl Gerth’s interest in China began with its ancient philosophy. But he is trained as an historian of modern China and specializes in the history of consumerism. After receiving his PhD in modern Chinese history from Harvard, he taught at the University of South Carolina and Oxford University, where he was the Dame Jessica Rawson Fellow at Merton College. More information on his publications and other activities can be found at his website.
The conversation with Prof. Gerth will be hosted and moderated by Amelia Glaser, Director of the Russian, East European, and Eurasia Studies (REEES) Program and Associate Professor of Literature.
This event is part of an ongoing series of Monday lunches made possible by a gift from Gay Lester. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP.
